ChickTech: High School is a year-long program that centers around creating events that will get high schoolers interested and excited about technology. These events pose some interesting challenges, as we expect that most of our participants have never had a chance to do anything like what we are offering. Our goal is to reach the girls who would make great engineers, but because of stereotypes and a lack of opportunity, may not realize it until they are already doing something else, if at all. We also strive to show the relevance of each workshop to their lives–and help them to understand that they have the ability to transform the tech industry!
ChickTech: Career is for women of all ages and types of careers. We believe our events will help to keep women engaged if they are already in the high tech industry, give them confidence if they were thinking about going into high tech, and help them to create a great network of intelligent, amazing women just like themselves. The events range from networking to hands-on workshops, with most of our events falling in the latter category.
Partner events are events put on with a partner–either a school, an organization, or a business!
General events are ChickTech events are open to everyone. Although there will be a preponderance of girls and women attending, all are welcome!
In partnership with Oregon Robotics Tournament and Outreach Program (ORTOP), ChickTech will create and run a week-long robotics boot camp to increase the number of girls participating in FIRST Robotics in middle school and high school.
34% of participants in FIRST Robotics programs are female, this camp will increase participants’ confidence in their abilities and provide them with a city-wide community of female peers as they enter FIRST programs in the 2018/2019 school year.
