ChickTech and ORTOP have teamed up to create a weeklong summer camp for middle school and high school girls interested in robotics.
At ChickTech, our goal is to create pathways into tech for girls across the country. We’ve seen that although robotics teams are a great pathway for people to get involved with technology and engineering, often girls don’t join because they don’t feel like they have enough experience, feel like they won’t be welcome, and/or don’t have any friends already involved. We’re excited to partner with ORTOP to create this experience!
This summer camp, taught by girls who are already engaged with robotics programs and facilitated by robotics mentors and other women in tech, will help to break down these barriers and build a supportive community for girls and trans/gender fluid/non-binary youth!
Dates: July 16-20, 2018
Location: PCC Rock Creek
If you’re a robotics mentor or other supportive adult, please fill out this form to get involved!
Are you interested in robotics?
Thinking about joining but want more experience first? Or are you in robotics and want to level up your tech skills?
If you’re a girl or a trans/gender fluid/non-binary youth in middle or high school, this is the camp for you! Being in tech ourselves, we know that being in an environment where you’re “different” is hard without a community…especially if you feel like you don’t know as much as the others. We’re creating an experience where you will learn the essentials and beyond from awesome and supportive peers.
- An brief overview of robotics (in particular, FIRST robotics)
- A lot of hands-on learning and practice
- A group of young women (and other supportive youth) to cheer you on in your robotics journey (and vice versa!)
- A fun weeklong experience
Sessions will include workshops on coding, hardware, 3D printing, laser cutting, and of course how the FIRST program works. We’ll have specific tracks for both FTC (FIRST Tech Challenge) and FRC (FIRST Robotics Challenge). We’ll also do a tour of the PCC Rock Creek campus, including meeting their farm animals and doing a relaxing walk in the wilderness area behind campus.
The cost is only $50 for the week, food is provided, and scholarships will be available. The camp is first come, first served, so sign up now!
